Welcome!

My name is Mariah Peixoto (1994-), and I am a researcher, activist, and author from São Paulo, Brazil. I am currently a Master's student in Cultural Studies (Philosophy) at the University of São Paulo (USP), and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy Management (2017-2022) from the same institution. Since 2017, I have been developing researches and scientific outreach projects, mainly associated with the DIAN Group (EACH-USP), investigating different aspects of our relationships with nonhuman animals.

My main areas of interest are: Critical Animal Studies (CAS), Cultural Studies, Critical Animal Pedagogy (CAP), Animal Ethics, Animal Rights, Ecojustice Education, Critical Discourse Analysis, Visual Education & Semiotics, Environmental Education, Power Structures, Politics, and Sustainable Futures.

During my bachelor, I got the opportunity to develop and coordinate researches and work as an intern at University of Gothenburg - Sweden (2020), funded by FAPESP, and University of Ottawa - Canada (2019), funded by MITACS. Some of my results and thoughts have been published as articles and, recently, as a book.

I strongly believe in the transformative power of education and in the urgent need of rethinking our current relationship with all animal and with nature in general, aiming for a more equal and truly sustainable future.
